Hammered Finish

We have already learned in other places of this portal that Tojiro has a fusion of tradition and modernity in its DNA. After all, anyone who bought a Tojiro knife can only confirm that. It is therefore gratifying that the latest innovation from the Niigata prefecture manufacturer is in a similar spirit. It is aptly named Tojiro Hammered Finish.

At first glance, this knife convinces us that it is a real "Japanese". A beautiful black blade fitted in a traditional way into a light "D" shaped handle. But this is really just a superficial description, unworthy of lovers of quality knives. So let's turn it into details.

The basis of every valuable knife is its core. If you want to play the first league, you can't hesitate in this regard. Therefore, the choice of V-Gold Steel alias VG-10 was unquestionable. Black unpolished blades are on course, but this one is even more special. We call them semi-kurouchi. Half of it is in black. In the second, the black turns into a satin gray and across a winding hamono line into a polished edge. We could already talk about an interesting and unattended solution, but the developers went even further. They supplemented the blade with depressions evoking the blows of a blacksmith's hammer. In this case, although it is not a manual beating as with the iconic and now almost unavailable Tojiro SK-85 Hammered , the aesthetic experience is equally strong. But it's not just the look. Such a solution contributes to better separation of sliced food from the blade. The famous goal is the brand name subtly embossed in kanji characters.

Experts in the kurouchi blades know that usually certain care that prevents oxidation is needed. Of course, the real traditionalists don't mind that, but there are also those who stop perceiving the knife at the moment of the last cut. And here's the great news for them. The core of VG-10 is lined on each side with a layer of stainless steel. For smooth blades, this would be sufficient, but not for hammered finish, where depressions reduce the outer layer. The manufacturer therefore applied a hydrophilic inorganic layer under the name ZeroClear Coating. This significantly increases the corrosion resistance of the material. Speaking of Tojiro's technical goodies, of course, DP's notorious decarbonisation prevention cannot be missing. This is a guarantee that the blade actually reaches the declared hardness. The DP mark is stamped on the blade.

The half-tang blade is struck in a Japanese D-shaped magnolia handle. It excels in high resistance to moisture. The ferrule is made of polypropylene.

It is not customary for Nippon Knives to order a complete collection of knives of a certain series. We always carefully select individual types, taking into account the specifics of our market. However, we have made an exception here and we bring you the entire collection. We consider Hammered Finish knives to be one of the most attractive with the TOJIRO logo, not only from an aesthetic point of view. We therefore invite you to inspect them and assess our opinion.
