Senzo Classic
Suncraft Corporation Limited (formerly Kawashima Industries) is based in where else but Seki. This small city in Gifu prefecture is often referred to as the knife capital. The city received this epithet thanks to its long knife history and the presence of many important manufacturers.
The Senzo Classic range of knives belongs to the so-called hybrid constructions. It is not a half tang, but neither is it a classic full tang. The blade has a welded steel bolster and tang. The handle, which fits exactly with the bolster, is connected to the blade with fixing glue. It is a very solid construction, despite the absence of rivets.
The blade has 33 layers, while the core is forged from VG-10 steel. It is known for its high carbon content and reaches a hardness of up to 61 HRC. The lower part of the blade bears a typical Damascene pattern with a hint of hamon, while its upper part is hammered. Just like VG-10, the outer layers of softer and harder steel are anti-corrosive, so the blade does not require special care. The edge is symmetrical in the shape of the letter "V".
The oval cone handle made of stabilized pakkawood smoothly transitions into the steel bolster. The interface of these two components is defined by a discreet red ring, which aesthetically follows the red logo in kanji characters located on the blade. All details are processed at a high level and the tasteful packaging only emphasizes the value parameters of this product.
If you are not a fan of the traditional Wa Bocho construction and find riveted handles too un-Japanese, the Senzo Classic series is for you.
