MCUSTA pocket knives

The iconic MCUSTA knives are manufactured by Marusho Industry Inc. from the city of Seki in the province of Gifu. Every Japanese knife expert knows that this is a prominent area with more than 700 years of tradition. The Hasegawa family has been producing the most sophisticated pocket knives you can find here for three generations.

Marusho Industry Inc. has little-seen production facilities in this industry. Since we are lucky, or rather honored, to be a family friend of the Hasegawa family, we did not miss the opportunity to tour their factory. We start with the design and construction section, where experienced programmers prepare algorithms for modern NC machines. The brightest materials you can only imagine in a cutlery rest casually in the entrance warehouse. VG-10 steel plates from nearby Takefu, 33-layer damascene plates, aluminum alloys, rare woods and quality micarta. Laser cutters and CNC milling machines work in the machining part. However, the most interesting thing for us is the finalization of knives and their subsequent grinding. On the contrary, everything is done manually. Even the company's president, Tomohiro Hasegawa, sits down behind a rotating grinding stone and deftly shapes a razor blade. This is followed by a final inspection, where each knife is thoroughly examined and travels to the shipping warehouse. From there, the whole world is supplied. Today, it is difficult to find a brand that is still produced in its country of origin. MCUSTA is one of those who has retained this privilege.
