Masahiro Shark Teeth
It is certainly unnecessary to introduce the Masahiro company. Its product range is so extensive that only a few fans of Japanese knives have not met the products of this important company. Its portfolio includes literally everything that can be cut with. In Japan, it controls a significant portion of the market for traditional knives such as Yanagiba, Deba, Usuba, and Soba and Udon pasta knives. However, we will focus on those closer to the European user.
Masahiro is one of the few manufacturers that has its own steel. It is MBS-26, the full designation of High Carbon Stainless Steel. As the name itself suggests, it is an anti-corrosion steel with a high carbon content. It ensures more than decent hardness at the level of 60 HRC. The composition of the steel is very well balanced, so the manufacturer likes to use it for its monolithic blades. MBS-26 not only holds the blade perfectly, but is also sufficiently flexible and does not require outer layers of softer materials.
The newest addition to the MBS-26 family is so different that we decided to dedicate a separate product group to it. It is a universal Petty knife with a 12 cm blade. However, it is exceptional for its sharpness. It is made up of very specific toothing reminiscent of the teeth of a sea predator. But unlike the great white, you will be looking for its presence. Its cutting performance is downright brutal. It will be enjoyed wherever the smooth blade hesitates. A serrated edge degrades much more slowly than a smooth one. However, if it is time to renovate it, our experts will handle it.
In terms of Japanese customs, the blade is not only effective but also beautiful. It bears the manufacturer's name in Latin and kanji characters. There is a marking of the material and the country of origin. The right side is decently monochrome, but the left side boasts bold red kanji characters.
The knife has a full tang construction with perfectly embedded rivets. The forged bolster smoothly transitions into an exemplary ergonomic handle. It is made of expensive thermoplastic polymer POM. It is resistant to acids and fats and does not degrade with age. Add high-quality and very aesthetic packaging and you have a gift that will not disappoint anyone.
