Product detail

Friends of the Nippon Knives store know that this year we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the import of Japanese knives to Slovakia. To commemorate this milestone, we asked master Tsutomu Kajiwara to forge a limited edition of 20 Bunka knives. Unfortunately, as it turned out, these were the last 20 blades to emerge from the master's hands.

During our celebration, we didn't forget the lovers of folding knives either. We have prepared a special numbered series of knives from the iconic Mcusta brand for them. As usual, in a limited quantity of 20 pcs only.

Insects as such are not very popular with the exception of bees. Of course, there are exceptions. For example, such a cricket is very popular in Japan. His song begins summer and ends autumn. And that his singing is really intense, every visitor to Japan will gladly testify. We believe that the emotions emanating from this masterpiece will be just as intense.

Suzunaki, that's the term for the song of crickets. And that is the main motif of our annual knife. Its image is depicted on the matte gray surface of the anodized aluminum handle. The back part is covered with a sheet of gold-colored metal. It is a clear reference to a country bathed in the sun. The blue rivets represent the sky. The beautiful Japanese landscape is here.

The blade is a San Mai design with a VG10 core. It is shaped like a katana with distinctive features such as shinogi, hamon and kisaki. The left side bears the manufacturer's name and brand, the right side bears the inscription Nippon Knives and the serial number of the knife. Talking about Teflon inserts, line locks, a massive buckle or the possibility of controlling the knife with one hand seems unnecessary to us with the Mcusta brand. The knife is packed in a kirbako box made of paulownia wood and thus becomes a suitable collector's item. However, its robustness and the quality of the materials used predetermine it for everyday use.

About producer

Mcusta

The manufacturer of iconic MCUSTA knives is Marusho Industry Inc. from Seki City in Gifu Province. Any connoisseur of Japanese knives knows that this is a prominent area with more than 700 years of tradition. The Hasegawa family clan has been producing the most sophisticated pocket knives you can find here for three generations.

Marusho Industry Inc. has a rarely seen production background in this industry. Since we are lucky, or rather honored, to be a family friend of the Hasegawas, we did not miss the opportunity to tour their factory. We start with the design and construction section, where experienced programmers prepare algorithms for modern CNC machines. The most elegant materials that you can only imagine in a cutlery shop are casually resting in the entrance warehouse. VG-10 steel sheets from nearby Takefu, 33-layer damascene sheets, aluminum alloys, rare woods and high-quality micarta. Laser cutters and CNC mills work in the machining section. However, the most interesting thing for us is the finalization of the knives and their subsequent sharpening. Here, on the contrary, everything is done manually. Even the president of the company, Tomohiro Hasegawa, sits down at the rotating grindstone and skillfully shapes the razor blade. This is followed by a final inspection, where each knife is carefully examined and travels to the dispatch warehouse. The whole world is supplied from there. Today, you will hardly find a brand that is still produced in its country of origin. MCUSTA is among those that have retained this privilege.
