The iconic model of the Japanese folk knife. The design of this simple knife from the knives' guild from the city of Miki dates back to 1896. The popular knife found its way into school bags for sharpening pencils and into the pockets of adults as part of everyday equipment. Its unmistakable chikiri serves to comfortably open the blade with a scandic grind. But be careful. This particular Higo no Kami has only design in common with a cheap knife. It is a product from the workshop of master Ichiro Hattori. The blade is a serious San Mai with a cobalt VG10 core. The type and thickness of the material, its processing, all meet the strict criteria of the Hattori brand. Total length 170mm.

Product detail

Ichiro Hattori is without a doubt the biggest name in hand-forged fixed blade outdoor knives. Not only does he come from a "knife" family, but he has dedicated his entire life to this industry. In the city of Seki, of course. Already at the age of 18, he joined his father's workshop /Masahiro/. Here he acquired the necessary skills. However, his talent and attention to detail soon demanded a new creative space. That is why he founded his own workshop in 1971. The reputation of his meticulous work soon crossed the borders of the Japanese archipelago. Brands such as Kershaw, Beretta, Cold Steel, SOG, Browning, Boker, Fallkniven and others stood in line at Ichiro´s workshop. He became the manufacturer of their high-end models.

In 1993, Hattori started producing under its own name for the Japanese market. His outdoor knives immediately became scarce due to the difficulty of manual work. The motto No Compromise is felt in every piece of his creation. Ichiro Hattori's work was noticed not only by collectors of exclusive knives, but also by local Japanese authorities, who awarded him several awards: Contemporary Master Craftsman, Excellent Skilled Craftsman, Outstanding Knife Making Craftsman.

As for materials, the craftsman focuses mainly on anti-corrosion steels AUS6 and AUS8, which are suitable for outdoor knives due to their strength and resistance to moisture. But he also likes to reach for VG10, SPG2 or super hard Cowry-X. He is the author of the patent for the nickel-steel damascen composition.

Ichiro Hattori has passed the age of eighty and it is understandable that the excess of demand over supply will continue to increase.
