Hand-forged outdoor knife by master Ichiro Hattori. Under the designation SAN, limited series were produced for the 80th birthday /Sanjyu/ of master Hattori. The 5mm thick and 100mm long blade in the shape of an inverted Tanto sword blade is a true masterpiece. Its tip resembles a Kiridashi woodcarving tool. The core is forged from ultra-hard Cowry-X powder tool steel. The steelmakers at Daido Steel hardened it to 65 HRC, while the maximum for this steel is up to 68 HRC. Layers of anti-corrosion steel SUS 440C and nickel alternate on the sides. 30+30 layers create a beautiful Damascene Suminagashi pattern. The blade is typical Hamaguri. The hilt and end cap are made of silver and nickel alloy. An exemplary handle made of desert ironwood provides a view of the beautiful drawing of this exotic wood. The end of the knife is dominated by a turquoise stripe, which is the distinguishing feature of this edition. The individual parts of the handle are discreetly separated by fine red stripes. Ichiro Hattori did not leave out any detail. A leather sheath is part of delivery.

Product detail

Ichiro Hattori is without a doubt the biggest name in hand-forged fixed blade outdoor knives. Not only does he come from a "knife" family, but he has dedicated his entire life to this industry. In the city of Seki, of course. Already at the age of 18, he joined his father's workshop /Masahiro/. Here he acquired the necessary skills. However, his talent and attention to detail soon demanded a new creative space. That is why he founded his own workshop in 1971. The reputation of his meticulous work soon crossed the borders of the Japanese archipelago. Brands such as Kershaw, Beretta, Cold Steel, SOG, Browning, Boker, Fallkniven and others stood in line at Ichiro´s workshop. He became the manufacturer of their high-end models.

In 1993, Hattori started producing under its own name for the Japanese market. His outdoor knives immediately became scarce due to the difficulty of manual work. The motto No Compromise is felt in every piece of his creation. Ichiro Hattori's work was noticed not only by collectors of exclusive knives, but also by local Japanese authorities, who awarded him several awards: Contemporary Master Craftsman, Excellent Skilled Craftsman, Outstanding Knife Making Craftsman.

As for materials, the craftsman focuses mainly on anti-corrosion steels AUS6 and AUS8, which are suitable for outdoor knives due to their strength and resistance to moisture. But he also likes to reach for VG10, SPG2 or super hard Cowry-X. He is the author of the patent for the nickel-steel damascen composition.

Ichiro Hattori has passed the age of eighty and it is understandable that the excess of demand over supply will continue to increase.
